Project Overview – Transforming an Empty Corner in Escondido

The owner of this Mira Mesa home had a solid, well-laid-out kitchen, but the golden oak cabinets were a holdover from a previous decade. After upgrading to beautiful new white quartz countertops, the dated cabinets stood out even more. A full and costly demolition was not an appealing option, so they turned to us for a smarter solution: cabinet refacing. Our team was tasked with completely transforming the kitchen’s aesthetic, bringing it into the modern era with new doors and a sophisticated, custom two-tone finish.

Our Cabinet Refacing service is the perfect way to modernize your kitchen, especially if you love your existing layout and countertops.

Features of the Refacing & Refinishing Project

Service: Full-service kitchen cabinet refacing, including the replacement of all doors and drawer fronts and the professional refinishing of all cabinet boxes in a two-tone color scheme.

The Transformation: All of the old, dated oak doors were replaced with new, custom-sized, clean-line Shaker-style doors.

Material & Finish: The new doors were crafted from solid Maple wood. A sophisticated two-tone palette was applied: a soft, elegant off-white painted finish for the upper cabinets, and a chic, modern medium-grey painted finish for the base cabinets. All existing cabinet boxes were meticulously refinished on-site to perfectly match.

Cohesive Design: The new two-tone style was selected to perfectly complement the home’s new white quartz countertops, a new white subway tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances.

Hardware: All old hardware was replaced with simple, modern dark knobs that provide a subtle, contemporary finishing touch.

Design Challenges & Solutions – A Flawless Two-Tone Refinish

Challenge: The main goal was to achieve a flawless, factory-quality two-tone finish that seamlessly blended the newly refinished cabinet boxes with the brand-new Shaker doors. The color transition between the upper and lower cabinets needed to be crisp, clean, and intentional to create a high-end, designer look. Solution: Our refacing and refinishing process is defined by meticulous preparation and a true painter’s craft. After removing the old doors, our team carefully prepped, primed, and professionally sprayed the cabinet frames on-site, applying the two distinct colors for the uppers and lowers. We then installed the new, custom-made Maple Shaker doors, which had been painted in our workshop for a perfect finish. The result is a stunning two-tone kitchen that looks completely custom-built from scratch.

This project shows how our Kitchen Remodeling expertise can create a massive impact even without a full demolition.

Questions You May Have

Q1: Can I really choose a two-tone finish for a cabinet refacing project?

Yes, absolutely! Refacing is a custom process, and a two-tone finish is a fantastic way to add a modern, designer touch to your kitchen. We can refinish your upper and lower cabinet boxes in different colors to match your new doors perfectly.

Q2: How do you achieve a professional, durable painted finish on old cabinet boxes?

We use a meticulous process that includes thorough cleaning and degreasing, sanding, applying a high-adhesion bonding primer, and then spraying multiple coats of a professional-grade, catalyzed cabinet paint for a hard, smooth, and long-lasting finish.

Q3: What cabinet styles are most popular for refacing projects?

The Shaker style is by far the most popular choice. Its clean, timeless lines can instantly modernize any kitchen, making it the go-to style for updating traditional or dated cabinets.

Q4: Is refacing a good option if I’ve already replaced my countertops in my Mira Mesa home?

It’s the perfect option. Refacing allows you to completely update the look of your cabinets without disturbing your new countertops, saving you from the risk of damage and the cost of replacing them again.
