The owner of this Rancho Bernardo home had a narrow, underutilized space between two doorways that was the perfect candidate for a clever, custom solution. They needed a piece that would be both a classic storage cabinet and a discreet solution for managing laundry. Our team was commissioned to design and build a smart, floor-to-ceiling cabinet that masterfully serves this dual purpose.

Features of the Custom Hallway Cabinet
Service: Full-service custom design, fabrication, and professional installation of a multi-functional, built-in hallway storage cabinet.
Key Feature: A large, deep pull-out drawer, expertly engineered to function as a concealed laundry hamper, complete with removable canvas sorting bags. This brilliant feature keeps laundry completely out of sight.
Cabinet Style: Clean, classic, and timeless Shaker-style doors. The large bottom pull-out features a clever front panel designed to look like two separate cabinet doors, maintaining a perfectly symmetrical and balanced appearance.
Material & Finish: Solid and durable Maple wood doors and face frames, finished with a crisp, clean, and modern white painted finish.
Functional Design: A tall, floor-to-ceiling built-in design that takes full advantage of the room’s vertical height, with spacious upper cabinets perfect for storing linens, towels, and other household supplies.
Seamless Integration: Meticulously custom-built and scribed to fit the unique wall space between the two doors perfectly, making it look like a seamless and original architectural feature of the home.
Design Challenges & Solutions – Maximum Function in a Minimal Space
Challenge: The main goal was to create a highly functional storage piece for a very narrow and specific space. The design needed to solve the practical problem of laundry clutter in a high-traffic hallway without impeding movement. It had to be discreet, elegant, and highly effective.
Solution: We designed a tall, slender cabinet to make the most of the vertical space available. The true star of the design is the custom-built pull-out hamper. We engineered it with heavy-duty, full-extension drawer slides to ensure it could handle the weight of a full load of laundry and operate smoothly and reliably for years to come. By disguising the hamper behind a Shaker-style front, it becomes indistinguishable from a standard cabinet, elegantly concealing its true function. The upper cabinets provide valuable, easy-to-access storage, turning a once-empty and awkward wall into a hardworking organizational hub.
